Technology evolves every day, and, unfortunately, so do scams. Today, a single click can be enough to compromise important information, disrupt operations, and cause significant losses for companies of all sizes.

With that in mind, the IT team has put together some important information to help everyone stay safer online.

1. WhatsApp and email scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated

Cybercriminals are using increasingly advanced techniques to deceive people. Fake messages no longer contain as many grammatical errors and often use logos, signatures, and even the names of well-known companies to appear legitimate.

Be on the lookout for the main warning signs:

In emails

• Urgent requests for payment or money transfers.

• Links to “confirm registration,” “update password,” or “view document.”

• Unexpected attachments, especially ZIP, RAR, EXE files, or documents that ask you to enable macros.

• Email addresses that closely resemble official ones but have minor changes.

On WhatsApp

• Requests for money from unknown numbers.

• Messages claiming that a family member has changed their phone number.

• Links to promotions, sweepstakes, or freebies.

• Requests for codes received via text message or authentication apps.

Before clicking, ask yourself these questions:

✅ Was I expecting this message?

✅ Do I really know who sent it?

✅ Is the email address correct?

✅ Does the link lead to a trustworthy website?

If you have any doubts, don’t click. Contact IT before opening the link or file.

emember: it’s much easier to prevent an attack than to recover data afterward.

2. How much does one wrong click cost?

It may seem like just a click, but it can mean hours or even days of lost work.

Most cyberattacks begin precisely when an employee is tricked by a fake message.

Some Key Statistics

Approximately 95% of security incidents stem from social engineering, where criminals manipulate people into revealing information or taking actions that facilitate an attack.

The average cost of a security incident can reach millions of reais when factoring in operational downtime, system recovery, lost productivity, and damage to the company’s reputation.

Tech Tip of the Month

Stop. Look. Verify.

Before clicking on any link or opening a file:

✔ Check the sender.

✔ Hover your mouse over links to check the address.

✔ Be wary of messages that seem overly urgent.

✔ Never disclose passwords or authentication codes.

✔ If in doubt, contact the IT team.

One minute of attention can prevent days of disruption.

Information security is everyone’s responsibility.

Every employee plays a key role in protecting the company’s data. Small actions make a big difference in keeping our digital environment secure.
